Sensibly Integrating Technology and 21st Century Skills in the First Grade Classroom-Intro

Introduction

Thank you for viewing my online course for first grade teachers who are seeking ways to integrate technology and 21st century skills into their classrooms in a meaningful way.  This course is most appropriate for teachers who may not be comfortable using technology in the classroom, or those who are new to the first grade level, but all are welcome to participate!

My name is Bethany Surber.  I have been a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher, teacher's assistant, and tutor.  I am currently the new Director of Education for a national tutoring franchise.  I am completing my coursework for a graduate level class, Technology for Teaching and Learning, and I am eager to share some of what I've learned through this mini-course.

Time Commitment

This course is self-guided, and will take approximately 3 hours to complete.  It includes 3 lessons and a culminating reflection.

Essential Questions

What are 21st century skills and how can I integrate them into my curriculum through the seamless and sensible usage of technology?

What is the Digital Learning Farm model, and how can I adapt it for use in the first grade classroom?

How can I make my daily lessons more interactive through the usage of digital tools and hands-on manipulatives in order to develop the creativity and innovative thinking of my students?
